Trongsa Dzong In Trongsa Bhutan
Trongsa is a district located in Central Bhutan and en route to Bumthang. It still had many ancient houses and even its local market dates back to some of the oldest structures in Bhutan.
The Trongsa Dzong or Fortress is beautiful and one of the main highlights of visiting Trongsa apart from the Monarchs Museum or the Ta Dzong.
The Trongsa Dzong is an ancient Fortress located in Central Bhutan and has been the seat of the Royal Family Governors where the Crown Prince before being enthroned as King of Bhutan, has to acquire the Title of Trongsa Penlop or Trongsa Governor. This has been the ancient practice since the Wangchuck Dynasty of the Kings have ruled Bhutan.
Trongsa Dzong is strategically located on a Spur overlooking the Mangde Chhu river. It is also the longest Dzong in Bhutan. It was built in this location so that it had a clear view of any suspicious activities if any.
Even now the Trongsa Dzong serves as an Administrative governing office and houses the monastic body. This Fortress houses the temples of Chenrezig Lhakhang and Maitreya (Jambayang).
