Bhutan Votes For The Upper House Seats on 23.4.13

Tomorrow the 23.4.13 is the day when Bhutan votes only for the second time in Bhutan's history after Bhutan embraced democracy in 2008.

Bhutan is a small country with very less population compared to the rest of the world.

Bhutan in tomorrows' voting will be voting on the following statistics:

    - Number of Contestents For The National Council of Bhutan (Upper House of the Parliament of Bhutan) is just 65

    - Total Number of eligible voters in the whole of Bhutan is just over 3,00,000 (Three lakhs)

    - Number of seats contested for is just 20 seats

    - Most of the contestents are young people aged beteen 26-35 years of age

Bhutan's King and people are very enthusiastic about the elections and so tomorrow is declared a national holiday so that all people can vote.

All polling stations are ready and secured by the Royal Bhutan Police force.

The border gates of Bhutan are sealed from tonight untill tomorrow evening after the polls close at 5 pm.

The hiccup at the moment is the remote district of Lunana, where there is no motorable roads and so a chopper/helicopter was hired to take the election officers and the EVM(electronic voting machines),but despite making 5 attempts, the chopper could not fly to Lunana due to bad weather with rain fall. So its been said that if by tomorrow the man and the EVM does not reach Lunana, then the polls in Lunana will be deferred to another day untill the equipments are reached there.

Bhutan takes its democracy seriously, thats why every attempt(no matter how high the expenses are shooting up) is being made to reach out to the remote lands and people of Lunana, where even if every person votes, there are only 450 eligible voters.

Bhutan Jewel Travel wishes Bhutan a successful second term in democracy.

Bhutan To Vote In The Primary Round of The National Assembly Seats

The Primary round of elections will be held on the 31st of May 2013,where there will be 4 parties contesting.

The votes will be counted on the same day/night of 31st May 2013 and then results will be declared in the first office hour of 1st June 2013,where 2 parties getting the highest votes will be in for the final round of elections to be held on 13th July 2013.

    The present 4 parties are:

    Druk Phuensum Tshogpa,

    Druk Chirwang Tshogpa,

    Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa,

    People's Democratic Party

The media in Bhutan like the BBS and the national news papers are everyday updating on the progress towards the poll dates, reporting on the candidates campaign, having common forums for live discussions, district wise candidate discussions, and at times interview with the candidates and the election commission of Bhutan, dispelling rumours and accusations AND clarifying on issues of the process of the elections.

The international social media like FaceBook and twitter are widely used especially by the educated lot and students, all pouring out their views, with positive and negative comments.

Looks like Bhutan is caught in the web of Politics and the social media is playing a strong role in determining the outcome of the polls.
